Idea development

After several research about the news and the critique of the project, I start working on what I should do. I comed up several idea of the installation and I divided it into several criteria.

Idea:

1. Rotating sculpture - sculpture of a cantonese

(人工島 -> 人工賭)

The text of 島 will rotate and change to 賭, it means the artificial island may be the gambling of our salary.

2. Waving sculpture

money = sea

(using fake money to create a waving structure that looks like sea)

The proposed sea for reclamation can create money. On the other side, some say the reclamation is the project that flow the money to the sea, It is the waste of money.

3.The interacive wishing pool

The action for audience of throwing money to the pool is a tradition of many culture to make a wish. However, the action is also a metaphor that we are wasting our money.

The centre of the pool is the area of the reclamation. If you can throw the money on it, the building model will rise. But if the money is thrown on the outer circle of the pool, some projection like the death fish will be shown. Here it means we have to utilise our money appropriately.

- video of new broadcasting the wrestling of different stakeholders

- collage video showing some creepy and irony problem of the project

5.Installation of sashimi

A shashimi being held and pulled with different string and and it represent different parties.

The Lantau island 大嶼山 has the same pronounciation with the big sashimi 大魚生. Some say the Lantau island is a big shashimi because the land developer is looking for it to gain the biggest profit.

6. Stage covered by white cotton with themochromic paint illustrating the pros and cons of the project

Audience are requested to get into the stage with their bare foot. Using thermochromic paint that change from colour to two different colour, the audience can see the graphic like the marine animals in risk to know the hidden issues behind the project.

More, some text written behind the cotton show the dark side of the purpose of the project is the fact that to hide the lack of ability to solve the current problem like

the hoarding of crown land, shortagr of land supply, fulfilling the need of China's development etc.

Idea:

7. Balance (Installation of list of scale mounted on the wall)

Struggling what I want say about this project, I finally notice is the balance I want the public can archive.

For example, the allocation of housing to the mainlander or the local, the right the animal or human, the design of high rising building or apartment.

There are so many controversy in this topic, maybe I don't have an answer to each one and I would like to know how the others think of so the interactive scale allowing the public to put on and off the weight from the scale to make a choice for themselves.

For the design of the scale, I have once think of simulating the waterfall and making the scale can affect each other from the flow of the water.

According to the concept that the investment of this project makes the public worry about the cost efficiency, how about providing a experience that people can decide how to use money although it is still a game of gambling.

People can draw their choice like what we do in mark six and the bargaining chip is not only about money, it can be the simplified model of public resources or the popularity rating.
